Mommy Make Over- Abdominoplasty and Liposuction

Monday, November 15th, 2010

This 22 year old female patient from Hesperia, California was left with damaged muscle and loose skin after giving birth to twins and was interested in the mommy makeover procedure. She was referred by a close friend and was very impressed with Dr. Pousti’s experience in abdominoplasty surgery.

This patient’s pregnancy left the patient with loose skin, damaged muscle and stubborn fat. The muscle damages occurs during pregnancy when the abdominal wall muscles are separated. Abdominoplasty surgery will be performed on this patient to correct this.

Measurements and markings of the tummy tuck are made in a sterile fashion. The outer lines will be brought into the center to repair the muscle and bring the waist in for a nice result.

After the muscle repair is performed the excess skin is removed and a new belly button is made.

As a second stage to the patient’s mommy makeover, liposuction of the back and flanks is performed to help contour the patient’s new body.

Markings and measurements are made prior to this procedure as well. Liposuction is used for stubborn fat that can not be removed through diet and exercise. Incisions for the procedure are generally one quarter inch in length and are placed in inconspicuous skin folds.

The patient is extremely happy with her initial results and loves her new body.

Mommy Makeover/Hernia Repair

Monday, November 1st, 2010

This 31 year old mother of 3 from Chula Vista, California was left with damaged muscle and loose skin around her abdomen after pregnancy. After doing internet research the patient found a procedure called a ‘mommy makeover’. Mommy makeovers usually include an abdominoplasty along with breast lift and augmentation.

During pregnancy, the lining of the abdominal muscles can rip and the abdomen can develop a bulge. In this patient’s case no matter how much she diets and exercises, she will not be able to get rid of her ‘bulge’ because the muscle damage is severe and can only be repaired surgically.

The day before surgery the patient meets with Dr. Pousti in the office for markings of the breast and abdomen. The mommy makeover procedure is reviewed in detail with the patient in the mirror.

During markings Dr. Pousti explains how the damaged muscle will be repaired and how the excess skin will be removed.

When the patient flexes the abdomen you can see the diastais present after muscle damage caused by pregnancies.

Once the patient is in the operating room an incision is made in an area that can be easily hidden by a bathing suit or the patient’s undergarments.

More measurements and markings are done once the abdomen is exposed.

The two outer lines drawn will be brought into the center and sutured together. This works as a girdle helping repair the muscle and holding in the bulge.

You can see below the comparison between the bottom portion of the abdomen (which has been repaired) and the upper portion (still damaged).

Once the repair is complete the loose skin is pulled down and the excess is removed.

Once the abdominoplasty is performed Dr. Pousti performs the mastopexy and breast augmentation. In order to achieve this patient’s goals 500cc Silicone implants were used.
